A 24-year-old transgender person has been given a death sentence by a Mumbai court for raping and killing a three-month-old girl in 2021. The accused abducted the baby after not getting the customary "vadhai" (gift) from its family. "The barbaric and inhuman manner in which the crime was committed makes it the 'rarest of rare cases'," said the court.
