US President Donald Trump on Friday sought $152 million from Congress to begin rebuilding the Alcatraz prison, as part of his proposed 2027 budget. The funding will cover the first phase of converting the former San Francisco Bay island prison into a "state-of-the-art" secure facility. The prison was closed in 1962 due to high maintenance costs.
