A tsunami has hit Tonga after an underwater volcano in the South Pacific exploded on Saturday, sending plumes of thick smoke into the air. Several videos that surfaced on social media showed waves crashing into homes and other properties. The eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai underwater volcano, located about 65 km north of Tonga’s capital, caused a 1.2-metre tsunami.
