A huge tsunami triggered by a major earthquake of over 9 on Richter scale struck the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004. The tsunami caused devastation in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and several other countries. Reported to be the second strongest earthquake and one of the ten worst disasters of all time, it killed an estimated 2,30,000 people.
