Uber driver charged with negligent homicide in 2018 self-driving accident

A US jury charged an Uber backup driver with negligent homicide in relation to an accident in 2018 in which Uber's autonomous SUV struck and killed a pedestrian. Investigation reports showed that the self-driving car's system detected the pedestrian more than five seconds before the accident and had the backup driver not been distracted, it could have been avoided.
