Ujjain’s ancient Hanuman idol and the mystery of 50 monkeys
Ujjain witnessed an extraordinary 40-hour operation to move a 170-year-old Hanuman idol after four failed attempts. The unusual sight of nearly 50 monkeys gathering around the temple fuelled talk of divine intervention. However, archaeologists attributed the difficulty to engineering challenges, as the massive monolithic idol was deeply anchored and required careful planning to move safely.
