short by Chhavi Tyagi / on Monday, 9 November, 2015
The United Kingdom completely abolished capital punishment on November 9, 1998. Notably, capital punishment for murder was abolished in the UK by 1973 (Great Britain- 1965 and Northern Ireland- 1973) and the last executions took place in the year 1964. The only remaining provision for the death penalty, which was under military jurisdiction, was also removed under Human Rights Act.
