UK imposes tougher English language test rules to get skilled visa

The UK has introduced stricter English requirements for migrants. From January 2026, applicants under Skilled Worker, Scale-up, and High Potential Individual visa routes must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at B2 level, covering reading, writing, speaking, and listening. "It's unacceptable for migrants to come here without learning our language," Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said.
