The UN on Wednesday backtracked on its earlier statement and clarified that the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan does not have a mandate beyond the Line of Control (LoC). It would only report on the ceasefire violations along the LoC. A senior UN official had earlier said the mission would continue to monitor the situation in Kashmir.
