Project CETI in New York has developed a small underwater robot to study how whales react to human activity, enabling real-time tracking of sperm whale communication. Using hydrophones, it records and analyses vocalisations. Unlike earlier methods, on board software detects sound sources and guides the glider to adjust direction, allowing scientists to actively follow whales in real time.
