The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) was established on December 11, 1946. The organisation was founded after World War II to provide emergency food and healthcare to children living in war-devastated countries. In 1953, UNICEF became a permanent member of the United Nations System and was renamed to United Nations Children's Fund.
