The intergovernmental organization United Nations (UN) was formally established on October 24 in 1945 to promote international co-operation. The UN was established after World War II ended on October 2, 1945, in order to prevent other such war or conflict. When the UN was founded, it had only 51 members- including India- as against 193 members at present.
