Unrest at Indian Oil refinery after labour protest, workers allege 'torture' by contractors

Contract labourers have been protesting at Indian Oil Corporation refinery in Panipat since Monday. They allegedly clashed with security staff, damaged vehicles after which CISF resorted to aerial firing. Protesting workers alleged that contractors were “torturing” labourers. They are demanding duty hours be cut from 12 to 8, double overtime pay and duty limited to 26 days a month.
