UP declares public holiday on Oct 26 due to Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has declared October 26 a public holiday on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. Schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed on Monday, while banks will remain open. Maharishi Valmiki, regarded as the Adi Kavi or first poet in Sanskrit literature, is credited with composing the Indian epic Ramayana.
