UPI MDR above ₹2,000 challenged in Supreme Court, hearing on Monday

The Supreme Court will hear a plea challenging the Centre's decision to introduce MDR on certain UPI merchant payments above ₹2,000. From October 15, a 0.4% charge will apply to eligible transactions, changing the zero-MDR system that has been in place for six years. The PIL argues that the levy was introduced without adequate legal safeguards, transparency or public consultation.
