Urban Maharashtra had highest unemployment rate in Apr-Sept 2020: Report

Urban Maharashtra was the worst-hit by COVID-19 in terms of unemployment in the April-June and July-September quarters last year when the rate of unemployment was 35.6% and 22.6% respectively. The national averages stood at 20.9% and 13.3% respectively. The Periodic Labour Force Survey found that urban Jharkhand had the second-highest unemployment rate in the two quarters at 32% and 19.8%.

Sensex crashed over 3,000 points on Monday and was trading at 72,122.64, while Nifty tumbled over 970 points at market open. This comes as Asian stock markets plunged a day after US futures opened sharply lower following the announcement of reciprocal tariffs by US President Donald Trump. Trent and TD Power Systems were among the top losers on Sensex.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, marking the opening of India's first vertical lift railway sea bridge. The 2.07-kilometre-long bridge spans the Palk Strait. The 72.5-meter navigational span can be lifted up to 17 meters, allowing larger ships to pass underneath. The new bridge is 3 meters higher than the existing one.
