US abolished slavery 152 years ago

With the adoption of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution on December 18, 1865, slavery was officially abolished in the US. This came after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 declaring that slaves in the states involved in the Civil War were free. The proclamation led to the liberation of 3 million slaves.
