US asks Japan to pay ₹57,300 crore to keep US troops there: Report

The US has asked Japan to quadruple the annual payments to keep US forces stationed there to around $8 billion (over ₹57,300 crore), Foreign Policy reported citing US officials. The US reportedly made a similar request to South Korea. The current agreement between Japan and the US to keep 54,000 American troops there will expire in March 2021.
