US diplomats walked out of a UN meeting on Monday as French diplomats began speaking. The walkout came after the US opposed a second term for UN human rights chief Volker Türk, whom France supports. Criticising the US opposition, France said America was no longer a “beacon of human rights” and now stood alongside countries like North Korea and Nicaragua.
