US FDA approves new Hepatitis B treatment

The US FDA approved GSK's HibSago (bepirovirsen) for adults with chronic hepatitis B but no cirrhosis. In two trials, 19% maintained viral control 24 weeks after stopping all medication. The injection may help some patients stop antivirals, but serious liver problems and low platelets mean they need regular blood tests and very close medical monitoring.
