US fines Amazon ₹21.3 crore to settle identity theft case

US' Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has fined Amazon $2.25 million (₹21.3 crore) to settle a case linked to identity theft victims. FTC alleged that Amazon violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by refusing to provide transaction records to users whose identity was used to commit fraud. Amazon put victims through 'Kafkaesque' ordeals by demanding they identify the thief, FTC said.
