New York City issued USA's first known birth certificate reading 'intersex' in the gender field to 55-year-old Sara Kelly Keenan. Her original birth certificate was corrected on December 15. The term 'intersex' refers to a range of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't fit typical definitions of male or female.
