Congressman Jim McGovern, co-chair of Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, called for a review of American arms sales to India over alleged transnational repression. Stephen Schneck, ex-chair of US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), said USCIRF's 2026 report had recommended India be designated as a "Country of Particular Concern". Notably, India had rejected USCIRF report.
