US lawmakers push Transnational Repression bill after Chinese spy arrest

US lawmakers urged Congress to pass the Transnational Repression Policy Act after the FBI arrested Wanying Zhang, a California-based naturalised citizen, for allegedly surveilling the son of Taiwan's President at China's direction. Zhang reportedly photographed and filmed the target in Seattle in September 2025, forwarding material to a Chinese official.
