The US Trade Representative (USTR) released a report wherein it listed India's preference for using domestic satellites for DTH services as a "trade barrier". It said US encourages India to adopt an "open skies" policy to promote market access for foreign satellite service providers. It also listed "localised shutdown" of internet as a barrier, claiming it restricts access to information.
