By 2026, all new vehicles sold in the US must deliver a mileage of at least 49 miles per gallon, the government has ordered. Currently, the minimum mileage required for vehicles stands at 28 mpg. The administration said the new rules are the strongest to date, which will save over 220 billion gallons of gasoline over the lives of vehicles.
