FBI Director Kash Patel announced the agency has opened its first office in New Zealand's Wellington to strengthen efforts to counter China's presence in Pacific region. Patel said office will also help in countering narcotics trade along with cyber intrusions and ransomware operations. FBI has stationed staff in Wellington since 2017 as sub-office of legal attaché office in Australia’s Canberra.
