US' Rhode Island moves to change official name over slavery ties

Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo has signed an executive order to change the US state's official name on government documents due to its ties to slavery. The name will be changed from 'The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations' to 'Rhode Island'. The term "plantations" carries reminder of America's "racist past", the state's only Black senator, Harold Metts said.
