short by Gaurav Shroff / on Thursday, 30 August, 2018
In a first, University of Minnesota researchers have 3D printed light receptors on a hemispherical surface. In the hour-long process to make the prototype, scientists used silver particles-based ink to print photodiodes, which convert light into electricity. "Bionic eyes are usually thought of as science fiction, but now we are closer than ever using a multi-material 3D printer," they said.
