US-based software company VMware has completed the acquisition of cloud-native startup Pivotal Software for $2.7 billion and will operate as VMware's wholly-owned subsidiary. Pivotal will join VMware's earlier acquired companies Heptio and Bitnami for its project VMware Tanzu. In 2015, Dell bought EMC for $67 billion, along with its consortium of companies that included VMware and Pivotal.
