American college student Joel Ortiz, who stole over $5 million in cryptocurrency through SIM swapping, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Ortiz is the first person to be sentenced for SIM swap fraud, authorities said. SIM swapping consists of tricking an operator into transferring a user's phone number to a SIM card controlled by the hacker.
