Use of Religion in Electoral Speeches - What is the Law?
short by Swapnil Tripathi / on Monday, 22 April, 2024
India is currently undergoing general elections, and in this charged political climate, leaders are resorting to religion to seek votes. However, this practice is prohibited under Section 123(3) of the Representation of People's Act, 1951. The Section prohibits making appeals to voters based on religion or caste. Such actions are considered corrupt practices and can result in disqualification.
