Vasudevan Pathangi Narasimhan wanted to finance low-income people underserved by banks. He left his job and started his microfinance company, Equitas in 2007. On June 30, 2016, it received an in-principal approval from RBI for a Small finance bank. Today, Equitas Small Finance Bank serves 40 lakh customers with 860 branches in 17 states.
