Vedanta Resources on Monday said it acquired leading nickel and cobalt producer Nicomet and became India's only nickel producer. A company statement said that the acquisition is a significant step in making India self-reliant in key minerals. Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal said, "India currently imports 100% of its nickel requirement. Our focus will be to boost India's domestic production."
