Vedanta and Hindalco Industries won bids on the first day of India's first-ever auction for awarding coal mines to private companies for commercial mining and sale. Vedanta won the largest mine, with an annual production capacity of 6 million tonnes. The bid is awarded based on the revenue sharing agreement pitched by the bidder to the concerned state government.
