Vedanta has lost about $200 million in profits since Sterlite Industries Ltd‘s copper plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, was shut down after protests last year, executive chairman Anil Agarwal said on Sunday. He further claimed the shutdown forced India to import copper, spending precious foreign exchange. The Tamil Nadu government ordered the permanent shutdown of the plant in May 2018.
