Venus may have swallowed its moon, study suggests

Scientists at the University of California, Riverside, have proposed a theory explaining why Venus has no moon. Their study suggests that Venus' slow rotation may have caused any natural satellite that may once have orbited the planet to gradually spiral toward it and eventually crash into it. The event may have occurred within Venus' first billion years, a researcher said.
