Asif Mahmood is the Vice Chair and a Commissioner of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), the body that urged the US government to impose sanctions on RSS and R&AW. Mahmood, a Pakistani-American, is described on the USCIRF website as a physician and philanthropist. Reportedly, he earlier promoted anti-India narratives under the guise of human-rights activism.
