Bharat Ratna awardee Sir M Visvesvaraya was a chief engineer during the 1900s in Mysore. Also known as the 'Maker of Modern Mysore’, his engineering feats include building the Krishna Raja Sagara dam that supplied power to Kolar's gold mines and a sewage farm to protect rivers. His birthday on September 15 is celebrated as ‘Engineer’s Day’ across the country.
