Madhapar in Gujarat's Kachchh has been dubbed 'Asia's richest village'. Residents of the village, on the outskirts of Bhuj, hold fixed deposits worth ₹7,000 crore. The village is inhabited mostly by the Patel community and has 17 banks. The reason behind the prosperity is its NRI families, who deposit crores every year in local banks and post offices.
