Disappointed by the 'lackadaisical' attitude of the authorities, residents of the Bihali area of Kullu district took matters into their hands and drove away illegal miners from the banks of the Beas river. A large number of tractors and labourers that were engaged in unauthorised sand extraction from the riverbed were swiftly evicted by villagers.
