A consumer commission in Andhra Pradesh imposed a penalty of ₹5.3 lakh on Vishal Mega Mart after customers suffered from food poisoning after allegedly eating an expired Maggie packet they bought from there. Of the total, the retailer will pay ₹2.8 lakh to the complainant and ₹2.5 lakh will be given to state's relief fund as punitive damages.
