Vizhinjam port set for major expansion to boost cargo capacity

Vizhinjam Port currently handles 1 million containers annually, with plans to expand capacity by an additional 6.4 million TEUs in two phases. Once fully operational, the port will drastically reduce India's reliance on foreign transshipment hubs, cut freight costs, and enhance shipping efficiency-positioning the country as a self-reliant player in global maritime logistics.
