US-based cloud and virtualization service provider, VMware on Tuesday confirmed that it will lay off 800 employees as part of its fourth-quarter earnings statement. The news came prior to Dell's acquisition of US-based EMC Corporation, which is the parent company of VMware. Notably, EMC had recently confirmed layoffs prior to the $67 billion Dell acquisition as a cost-cutting measure.
