Walking upright evolved 3.6 mn yrs ago, before humans: Study

Analysing fossilised footprints of human ancestors in Tanzania, American researchers have discovered that human-like upright bipedalism evolved about 3.6 million years ago whereas modern humans emerged roughly 200,000-300,000 years ago. Earlier studies have suggested that hominins began walking on two legs around 7 million years ago, however they retained a crouched, bent-legged walking posture.
