Two years after the initial WannaCry ransomware attack, it still remains active with 12,000 variants in circulation, Sophos researchers revealed. Sophos claimed in August alone it detected over 4.3 million attempts by infected computers to spread the variants, with 8.8% located in India. It added the WannaCry variants were able to bypass the 'kill switch' that stopped the 2017 spread.
