India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru delivered a speech on the midnight of August 14, 1947, the eve of India's independence. Titled 'Tryst with Destiny', the speech was made in the Parliament to members of the Constituent Assembly. "At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom," Nehru had said.
