Water rises in Africa's Sahel region after decades of drought

The semi-arid Sahel region of Africa, which has faced decades of drought, is experiencing erratic but extreme rains, which are replenishing rivers, filling desert depressions. Water tables have risen by 13 feet or more in some places, including Lake Chad which shrivelled up during droughts. The rewetting of the area is also driven by the Great Green Wall project.
