A research conducted at ESA stated that watermeal, world's smallest flowering plant, could be used as source of nutrition and oxygen for astronauts. Lacking roots and stems, watermeal floats as a sphere on water. Its unique structure could help researchers study effects of gravity shifts on its growth. It's a prolific producer of oxygen through photosynthesis and rich in protein.
