West Bengal government has banned Holi celebrations at Sonajhuri Haat near Shantiniketan to "avoid damage to the area's greenery". "This has not happened in just one area...For the first time, meetings were held at every police station as Holi is falling on Friday," BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said. "It was openly said that colours should not be used," he added.
